A RARE GERMAN EARLY WHEEL-LOCK HOLSTER PISTOL OF THE TRABANTENLEIB-GARDE OF AUGUST I, PRINCE ELECTOR OF SAXONY (R.1553-86)
DATED 1564
With long barrel formed in two stages with moulded girdle and base, swamped muzzle and the date engraved on the octagonal breech, plain flat lock fitted with safety-catch, slender angular dog and pan-cover with button release, blackened full stock stamped in imitation of rough staghorn and inlaid with a series of small engraved horn plaques, the greater number decorated with a chain-like strapwork design, with a pair of rosettes impaled by the side-nails, the pommel inset with a horn rondel engraved with the arms of Saxony and the crossed swords of the Archmarshalcy of the Holy Roman Empire, iron trigger-guard, engraved horn ramrod-pipe and fore-end cap, and original ramrod with engraved horn tip.
