The first Christian emperor, Constantine I, depicted twice on the vertical axis of the icon, seated on an elevated throne above and below, standing on a pedestal in conversation with St. Nicholas, flanked by the Bishops in attendance, St. Alexander of Alexandria, who presided over the council, kneeling to the left and praying to the image of the youthful Christ under a baldachin, standing to the right of Constantine, Arius and his followers, identifiable by their lack of haloes, in the lower right corner, Arius depicted for a second time, in his dying moments; the event in the interior of a five-domed church, the Old Testament Trinity shown on the upper border, executed traditionally with the use of sombre colours heightened by gold on the haloes and details
