Painted in blue with a half-length portrait of Queen Anne in her Robes of State, within an oval double blue line cartouche, in an integral biscuit frame with radiating leaves and stud-ornament, pierced for hanging, the reverse dated 1704 flanked by dot-ornament, flaking to edge and slight chipping to underside, minute chip to suspension hole at top

The portrait is most probably taken from an engraving after a painting by J. B. Closterman. Another example almost certainly by the same hand dated 1704 is in the Cuckfield Museum Trust (C.48). The biscuit frame at one time perhaps gilded was probably painted black on Queen Anne's death in 1714; traces of black enamel remain.
