Atalanta hunting with her maidens; and The Wedding of Atalanta and Meleager
oil on panel, tondi, set into a nineteenth-century North Italian giltwood and polychrome decorated cassone, the rectangular lid painted with scrolling foliage above egg-and-dart and dentilled cut frieze, the panel front centered by a coat-of-arms and flanked by mythological landscape medallions and carved in relief with acanthus wrapped pilasters, on a later fluted and foliated carved plinth, the sides with wrought-iron handles
the tondi 11 in. (28 cm.) diam.; the cassone overall 30 x 79¾ x 28½ in. (76.2 x 202.5 x 72.4 cm.)
with the number 'R72' inscribed on the reverse of the cassone

Provenance
Venice until 1881, when purchased there by
Johann II, Prince of Liechtenstein, Duke of Troppau and Jägerndorf (1840-1929), and by descent; in Vienna by 1944, when moved thence to Schloss Vaduz, Liechtenstein, where it was displayed in the Room of the Vierjahreszeiten-Ofen until 2003.
