The shaped top inlaid with a central medallion depicting a girl feeding a donkey within a foliate cartouche of birds, dogs and insects surrounded by an outer border of summer-flowers and gadrooned rim, above a similarly inlaid serpentine frieze fronted by a drawer, on cabriole legs headed by a crowned female herm and terminating in scrolled sabots

The Parisien firm of Bassié et Cie., fabrique d'ébénisterie de luxe, exhibited at the Paris 1855 Exposition Universelle and their premises are recorded at 14 St. Claude Marais.

On the original receipt, dated 30 July 1859, which accompanies this lot, it is described as 'Une Grande Table de Salon avec tiroir, style Louis XV en Bois de Rose & Marqueteries de bois a Fleurs Mosaiques, ayant en Millieu représentant en Paysage avec sujets Divers' and listed as being supplied to a Monsieur Henry B Beaumarchais for a cost of 350 francs including packing and transport.
