Lot Essay

From Ms Graham to her aide, and thence by descent.

Halston's serious glamour dominated American design in the 1970s; his classical, elegant and simple clothes were coveted by movie stars, performers and artists. In that disco-crazed era, his designs translated easily to theatre and dance. In fact, he costumed several productions for Martha Graham's company, as well as creating couture for her own wardrobe.
