Finely painted after Godward with a full-length potrait of a fair-haired classical nude beauty standing before a marble archway leading to a bath and tying a blue ribbon in her hair, the foreground and a klismos chair strewn with furs and drapery
13 x 7¾ in. (33.2 x 20 cm.), within an elaborately carved giltwood frame

John William Godward R.B.A. (1858-1922)

The present subject is based on a painting formerly in the Forbes Collection. See Christie's, London, 5 June 2008, lot 37. Literature on this work by Henry Blackburn states that the canvas, no. 664, was exhibited in the 'place of honour' Gallery VII at the Royal Academy. See his Royal Academy Notes 1897, London, 1897, p. 21.
