Gouache heightened with gold on paper, three boats filled with people in brightly coloured robes and turbans, are rowed across a dark watery background, one boat carries Alexander wearing a crown, two mythical beasts swim in the water around them, with four columns of elegant black nasta'liq with gold intercolumnar rules, between grey and blue rules on pink marbled paper, mounted on white card, some flaking and fading of the paint
