SIGNED MALIK AL-DAYLAMI, SAFAVID IRAN, MID 16TH CENTURY
Persian manuscript on polished paper, with 4ll. of large black diagonal nasta'liq, surrounded by smaller lines above and below each couplet, with a final line running horizontally across the bottom with the signature of Malik al-Daylami, laid down between gold and polychrome rules on pink gold-speckled paper, some creasing, one area of loss
Calligraphy 7 1/8 x 3¼in. (18.3 x 8.2cm.)

Malik Daylami (AH 924-969/1518-62 AD) was a famous nasta'liq scribe who originially worked at the library of Sultan Ibrahim Mirza in Mashhad but was called by Shah Tahmasp to Qazvin to write the inscriptions of the Chehel Sutun.
