Lot Essay

This work is number 9 from the sold-out edition of 10.

In 'The Galateas of Carla van de Puttelaar', Rudy Kousbroek observes: 'The stone forms have started to breathe, a gentle blush colours the marble, sweet undergrowth covers the mound of Venus, yearning to be stroked like fields of grass in the wind. Now the marble also shows signs of activity: here and there you glimpse a bruise; the transformation from divine to human is visible in the marks of clothes on the skin and the presence of moles. In short a miracle has taken place, marble has come to life: that is what these photos show.' (Carla van de Puttelaar, pp.9-10)
