AN AUSTRIAN SILVER-GILT MOUNTED ROCK CRYSTAL SHELL-SHAPED BOWL
MARK OF HERMANN RATZERSDORFER, VIENNA, CIRCA 1880
On spreading circular foot, the stem formed as a finely cast three-headed winged grotesque monster, supporting a shaped shield enamelled in black with a coat of arms of a unicorn, the shell-shaped bowl with rim applied with cast horned and bearded male mask and two hippocamps, with jewels between, the valve with the figure of a seated mermaid, the shell-shaped bowl cut with scrolls and foliage, marked underneath and on stem.
