The arms are those of Thomas impaling Keppel, for General John Thomas and his wife Sophia Keppel (d.1773), daughter of Arnold, 1st Earl of Albemarle (1670-1718), whom he married in 1731. General Thomas was the second son of Sir Edmund Thomas 2nd Bt. (1667-1723) of Wenvoe Castle, co. Glamorgan. His son, Charles Nassau Thomas was vice-chamberlain to the Prince Regent, later King George IV.
