Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru--Vintage 1971
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti/Domaine Marey Monge
Slip label with bottle number missing. Bin-soiled label. Level 4.5 cms below the cork
Tasting note: I have always had a soft spot for the St-Vivant, yet of all the DRC 'stable', it does not command quite the attention that some of the others do. I align it with their Grands-Echézeaux. Perhaps more of an immedite impact than the bigger guns, certainly delightful at its first showing in 1974 and typically fragant and elegant in 1983. In 1989 beginning to show full maturity; glorious bouquet; assertive and nevertheless well supported by tannin and acidity. Another good note in 1991, 'stylish'. More recently; very attractive colour, rich 'legs'; fully evolved bouquet surging out of the glass, sweet, fragrant, singed, great depth; now very sweet on the palate, full-bodied (14 alcohol), rich flavour, touch of citrus zest and still tannic. Last noted at a St-Vivant vertical at the Domaine, Nov 1995 ***** Michael Broadbent, Vintage Wine
