A SILVER AND GOLD FILIGREE JEWELLED BINDING, possibly Dutch, early 18th century silver-gilt and gold filigree, covers with a richly filigreed panel of scrolling leaves, over straight-grained morocco, covers with a cental stellate medallion with emerald, amethyst, a cabochon ruby, topaz, turquoise, aquamarine, and garnet and seed pearls, floral cornerpieces similarly built up from small jewels and pearls, spine filigreed and jeweled en suite, filigree clasps each with a central jewel, green straight-grained morocco doublures elaborately gilt with a central cross, gilt and floral-gauffred edges (a few jewels loose or missing). Provenance: Henrietta M.S. Stuart (gift card tipped to flyleaf: "Henrietta M.S. Stuart from her affectionate husband William Stuart. 9th August 1852. The 31st Anniversary of their wedding"); sold Parke-Bernet, 7 October 1955 (sale of silver, porcelain and decorative arts); Cornelius J. Hauck, purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 10 October 1955.
