Lot Essay

The present miniature is probably signed and dated on the counter-enamel. Henry Pierce Bone and his father, Henry Bone, R.A. (1755-1834) usually signed in full and dated their works in this way, however the miniature's current frame precludes inspection without risking damage to the enamel.
