The trunk-stand was amongst the convenient items of bedroom apartment furniture introduced around 1800 by Gillows of Lancaster. The brand 'Gillows. Lancaster' is recorded on an Egyptian-reeded stand of this pattern supplied in 1812 for Tatton Park, Cheshire (N. Goodison and J. Hardy, 'Gillows at Tatton Park', Furniture History, 1970, pl. 14A; and S.E. Bourne, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, vol. II, p. 125). A similar stand was supplied by Gillow in 1807 to Lord Montgomerie of Coilsfield (see S. E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London, Woodbridge, 2008, vol. II, pl. 673).
