Barbu, portant un nébris sur ses épaules, le regard frontal, la tête légèrement tournée vers la gauche; dans une monture ovale en métal doré, appliquée sur un fond ovale en jaspe, enchâssé dans un cadre associé en bronze doré, bordé de figures de putti, couronné d'une coquille flanquée de volutes, au-dessus de masques et de fronces

Bearded, a nebris worn across his shoulders, facing front, head turned slightly to the left; in an oval gilt-metal mount, applied to an oval jasper ground, within an associated gilt-bronze frame flanked by standing figures of putti, crowned by a scallop shell between volutes, with masks and swags below

Bacchic themes including fauns, according to Riccardo Gennaioli (Le Gemme dei Medici al Museo degli Argenti, 2007, nos. 63, 64), were part of the repertory of the Renaissance gem engraver.
