Le couvercle surmonté d'une prise d'époque postérieure en bronze doré représentant Vénus, orné du cortège triomphal de Diane, représentée dans un char tiré par des cerfs et accompagnée de nymphes et d'anges musiciens, le dessous orné de quatre médaillons de putti jouant des instruments de musique et de volutes ouvragées de rinceaux dorés, la coupe reposant sur un pied circulaire orné de guirlandes suspendues à des masques de lion, agrémenté de cartouches illustrant des scènes de la vie d'Hercule alternant avec des putti; signé des initiales 'P.R.' et daté 1552 ; l'intérieur de la coupe illustrant le festin de Didon et Enée, encadré par une bordure à motifs d'arabesques et rinceaux dorés; petits éclats, craquelures et réparations, usure à la dorure, certaines parties de la dorure retouchées

A PARCEL-GILT GRISAILLE ENAMEL TAZZA DEPICTING THE FEAST OF DIDO AND AENEAS ATTRIBUTED TO PIERRE REYMOND, 1552
The lid surmounted by a later gilt-copper figure of Venus and decorated with a procession of Diana in a chariot being drawn by deer and attended by music-making nymphs and angels, the underside decorated with four medallions of putti playing instruments and elaborate gilt-foliate scrolls, the tazza on a circular foot with garlands suspended from lion's masks and with cartouches with scenes from the life of Hercules alternating with putti, also signed with initials '.P.R' and dated '1552', the inside of the tazza depicting the Feast of Dido and Aeneas within a border of gilt foliate scroll-work; minor chips, cracks and repairs, wear to gilding, areas of the gilding refreshed

The present tazza displays a number of motifs to be found on other works by Pierre Reymond, but is closest in form and iconography to an example in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, which is signed with initials and dated 1554 (for an illustration see Descheemaeker, op. cit., fig. 2, p. 23).

Un certain nombre de motifs que l'on peut retouver sur d'autres pièces par Pierre Reymond figurent sur la présente tazza. Celle-ci est cependant à rapprocher tout particulièrement - tant par sa forme que par l'iconographie utilisée - à un exemple conservé au Kunsthistorisches Museum, à Vienne, monogramé et daté 1554 (voir Descheemaeker, op. cit., fig. 2, p. 23, pour une illustration).
