The outstretched wings on this pair of cockerels seem to be a rare feature. For examples of these birds with their wings flat to their sides, compare the examples in the Peabody Essex Museum, see Sargent, The Copeland Collection, pp. 144-5, no. 66; the pair sold Christie's, London, 18 June 2002, lot 269; and the single in the Hodroff Collection illustrated in Howard, The Choice of the Private Trader, p. 263, no. 315.
