Lot Essay

The sitter of the present portrait is uncertain, though a later label to the reverse suggests 'Anne Marchioness Hamilton'. A known portrait of Lady Anne Cunningham, Marchioness of Hamilton (d.1647), is in the Collection of Lennoxlove House, East Lothian.
