Lot Essay

Lady Margaret Keith, née Ogilvy, was the second wife of George, 5th Earl Marischal (d.1623). The date on the present portrait of 1625 would seem to fit with the sitter being portrayed in mourning dress with her eldest son, John Keith, later 1st Earl Kintore.
