Lot Essay

See a very similar pomander illustrated by R. Kleiner, Chinese Jades from the Collection of Alan and Simone Hartman, Hong Kong, 1996, p. 100, no. 84, where the author notes that the style of openwork carving is typical of that seen in the Beijing Palace workshops of the 18th century.
