LATE SHANG/EARLY WESTERN ZHOU DYNASTY, CIRCA 1100 BC
The cylindrical tube cast at the top on each side with a different taotie mask set above a hole, one mask with large horns that extend above a pair of small flanges positioned above small holes, the mask on the reverse centered by a long nose cast with scales that divides the eyes and the ears, with a small hole in the flat top which is framed by the projecting edges of the horns and ears, the dark olive-grey patina with green and ferrous encrustation
