Lot Essay

The Perished Collection revives seventeenth-century Flemish marquetry techniques to document the skeletons of extinct animal species, and comprises of a bench, cabinet, table and the present screen, each produced in an edition of six. The collection absorbs and synthesises the fine, the graphic, and the applied arts to address issues of ecological permanance and environmental historicism, yielding an expressionistic symbolism superimposed upon an absurdist, semi-functional monumentalism.
