TWO JADE PLAQUES, 19TH AND 20TH CENTURY
comprising a celadon jade plaque carved to the front with figures seated in a fenced garden and lines of calligraphy; and a white jade plaque carved and pierced as an archaistic bell with a tiger and a qilin to the top and other mythological animals to the sides, wood stand -- the first, 2in. (5.1cm.) wide. (2)

From an English private collection acquired in China during the 1940's.

Lot Essay

The two lines of calligraphy in the first plaque are from the poem Shan Ju Qiu Min (Autumn in the Mountain) by the Tang poet Wang Wei.
