This plate is from a dessert-service which included seventy-two plates sold to Empress Joséphine on 9th March 1810, and delivered to the Elysée Palace. Napoléon Bonaparte had positioned his former wife in the palace following their divorce in 1810 but she and the service were moved to Malmaison in 1812 and her death swiftly followed in 1814.
