The body panel with a departure scene centered by a hoplite, moving right but looking back, nude but for greaves and a crested Corinthian helmet, holding a spear and a circular shield with a star as the blazon, his dog positioned below, flanked by a mantled bearded man to the left, and two to the right, framed on either side by double rows of ivy leaves; the shoulder with three horsemen moving right; rays above the foot, details in added red and white

The Ainipylos Painter was identified by Brijder (see "War and Peace on a New Cup by the Ainipylos Painter," pp. 21-28 in Bohr and Martini, eds., Studien zur Mythologie und Vasenmalerei.
