a pair of nepalese wood hindu bookcovers
late 18th - early 19th century
The inside of the first cover depicts Siva and Parvati seated on the buffalo and lion, resting on a lotus, both holding their specific attributes, flanked by a white manifestation of Siva and the blue Bhairava, both holding a large drum in their principle hands, the second cover depicts Lakshminarayana, seated on Garuda and tortoise, holding their specific attributes, flanked by the red coloured Siva and probably the white Brahma, the last is depicted in an unusual way, all figures are placed against a green mountainous landscape with some white slopes
