The chairs, intended for 21" woven fabrics, have their columnar legs serpentined in the Queen Anne 'India back' parlour chair manner, while their truss-scrolls and round 'toes' are 'Pan' reeded in George I 'Roman taste. Cabinet-makers in London's St. Paul's Church-yard probably supplied the chairs of this pattern, with richly patterned 'caffoy' upholstery, inventoried in 1726 at Erddig, Wales.(J. Cragg, New Light on a Set of Chairs at Erddig, Furniture History Society Newsletter, no. 143, August 2001).
