Lot Essay
There is a set of quartetto tables of similar form at Leighton Hall, Lancashire, which are likely to have been supplied by Gillows circa 1810 (R.Edwards & M.Jourdain, Georgian Cabinet Makers, rev. ed., London, 1955, p.221, fig.193). Leighton Hall was bought by Richard Gillow in 1822 from his cousin, Thomas Worswick. Other similar sets of five tables were sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 1 July 2004, lot 43, 4 October 2001, lot 116, and 17 November 1983. The latter had formed part of a group of furniture supplied to Gillows to William Senhouse in the West Indies. A further nest of five tables of this pattern was sold by the late Mrs. D.W. Priston at Christie's, London, 20 June 1974, lot 89.
