With long tapering double-edged blade of flattened-diamond section (the tip with expert repair), long slender rounded quillons widening at the écusson and with flared globular tips, large spherical pommel, and original leather-covered wooden grip

Lot Essay

Provenance: Fingask Castle, Rait, by Perth, Christie's 26-28 April 1993, lot 625.

The present sword belongs to a small related group of 15th century English two-hand swords. Notably comparable within the group are one in The Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds (IX.633) and another in The York Castle Museum (CA 700).
