AN ELABORATE ACCOUNT OF THE WEDDING OF WILHELM V (1548-1626) DUKE OF BAVARIA AND RENÉE (1544-1602) DUTCHESS OF LORRAINE, held in Munich in 1568. The folding woodcut (300 x 1010 mm) shows the chariot, drawn by four white horses, in which Ferdiand of Austria made his entry into the masque which followed the wedding ceremony. Wirre, who arrived late for the festivities owing to bad weather, composed verses on the European nobility present, which are accompanied by woodcuts of their arms. The laurel wreath on E2v was intended for the arms of Ott von Byland, but, as Wirre explains in the verse, "sein Wappen mir erkandt ist nitt." Wirre also composed a full account of the events, costumes, and spectacles; double-page woodcuts illustrate five of the jousting matches. BMC/STC German p.920; Graesse VII, p.464; Lipperheide Sbc 4; Vinet 706.
