2o (371 x 255 mm). Engraved title and two plates by BALTHASAR GABBUGGIANI after I.P. PANNINI after the design of FERDINAND FUGA (title with portion of verso reinforced and small hole.) (Some browning and pale dampstaining.) Contemporary vellum over pasteboard (a few stains).

MARIA CLEMENTINA SOBIESKI (1702-35) was the wife of James Stuart and mother of Charles Edward Louis Philip Casimir Stuart (1720-1788), aka "Bonnie Prince Charlie" and Henry Benedict Stuart (1725-1807), later known as the Cardinal Duke of York. She died young, at the age of 32 and was interred with full royal honors in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The folding plates shows the extremely elaborate catafalque and decoration within the chuch and the procession. See also lot 444. Berlin 3255; Cicognara 1502; Vinet 755.

A celebration of the election to the papacy of BENEDICT XIV (Prospero Lorenzo Lambertini, 1675-1758). The very fine plate shows a perspective view of the theater erected in the Collegio Clementino in Rome for the occasion. The festivity was organized by the students at the college.
