2o (330 x 273 mm). Hand-colored engraved frontispiece and 24 plates (some minor spotting not affecting the images). Contemporary black morocco gilt (rebacked preserving the original spine, corners scuffed). Provenance: R.C. Griggs (penciled initials on verso of front free endpaper); Woodwards Gardens (San Francisco 1866-1891, ink stamps on verso of some plates; (?)their sale San Francisco 6 April 1893).
FIRST EDITION, in which Henderson provides instructions for drawing and painting flowers, which had of late become a fashionable 19th-century form of amusement.
