Lot Essay

The present drawing probably dates from around 1923-5 when Nicholson produced a number of blueprints of aquatic and marine life subjects. Nicholson was a friend of the zoologist Edward Boulenger, whom he had met at the Savile Club. Boulenger was appointed the first Director of the Regent's Park Aquarium in 1923 (see Campbell, C. William Nicholson, The Graphic Work, London, 1992, p.162.).
