A red sandstone relief with three River Goddesses
India, Rajasthan or Madhya Pradesh, 11th century
The three River Goddess elegantly carved standing in sensual tribhanga, the central figure holding a flywhisk and a lotus, each clad in a beaded belt and flowing shawl and further adorned with jewelry, their faces with smiling full lips and almond-shaped eyes, flanked by large round earrings, their hair pulled into elaborate chignons and secured by tiaras
