Sir James Clark, first Baronet, (1788-1870) was a physician whose most notable achievement was his research into and publication of a treatise entitled The influence of climate in the prevention and cure of chronic disease of 1829.
In 1826 he was admitted a licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians and served on the General Medical Council between the years 1858 and 1860. He was responsible for a number of Royal commissions including advising on military hygeine in the aftermath of the Crimean War, and introduced Florence Nightingale to Queen Victoria. (R. Agnew, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography).
