THE IVORY 18TH CENTURY
Depicting various pairs of birds, including a pair of phoenixes, perched in and in flight around two trees, the larger with kingfisher feather-embellished gilt metal leaves, the birds and foreground in finely painted ivory, all against a later dark green background; the wood panel on the reverse carved in shallow relief with a vase filled with the 'Three Friends' and a bowl filled with finger citrons, pomegranate and pear beside a ruyi scepter, all below two bats, the zitan-veneered frame carved with diaper pattern and applied with champlevé enamel bat and dragon scroll appliques
