TWO LARGE PORCELAIN FIGURES OF A GARDENER AND A NIT PICKER
by the Popov Porcelain Factory and Gardner Porcelain Factory, Moscow, first half 19th century
Both realistically modelled, the first depicting a man in a white shirt and a green coat holding a black hat filled with brightly coloured flowers, a spade and watering-can beside him, on a naturalistic rectangular base with gilt rim, blue underglaze Cyrillic monogram 'AP' and incised Cyrillic letter 'Zh'; the second group depicting a man in a green hat removing nits from the hair of a youth seated on the ground before him, on a naturalistic base, the rocaille and scroll border with gilt details, impressed Cyrillic 'Gardner' and Moscow coat of arms, incised Cyrillic 'L', two blue underglaze dots, each marked under base
