A HOSHIBACHI HELMET
Edo period (17th-18th century)
The sixty-two-plate hoshibachi lightly lacquered black, the hachimanza of gilt copper, the brim in simulation of leather, blue-laced four-tier shikoro with two rows of orange hishi-nui (cross knots) on the lower plate, black-lacquered fukigaeshi with gilt mon of butterfly and mitsu-tomoe, the added maedate (forecrest) of an iron grimacing horned demon with gilt eyes
