Sugata [configuration]: honzukuri, iori-mune, even curve, chu-kissaki
Kitae [forging pattern]: tight ko-itame with fine ji-nie
Hamon [tempering pattern]: gunome midare
Boshi [tip]: komaru
Nakago [tang]: ubu, katte-sagari file marks, two mekugi-ana, one a shinobi-ana, ha-agari kurijiri
Nagasa [length of blade]: 68.7cm.
Koshirae [mounting]: in its katana mounting of aogai nashiji lacquered scabbard with butterfly mon in gold hiramaki-e, oval shakudo tsuba with phoenix among clouds, in gold hirazogan, a rope-twist gold fukurin, fuchigashira of shakudo nanako with dragons in gold inlay (2)

Nobukuni Shigekane was one of the three sword smiths, together with Mondo no sho Masakiyo and Ippei Yasoyo, who were summoned from Kyushu to go to Edo in 1720 to demonstrate sword-making before the 8th Tokugawa shogun, Yoshimune.
