The central scene on the vase is probably painted by Dodin with 'La Trompette' or 'Silence' after the painting by Jean-Baptist Greuze in the Royal Collection. For a similar example of this form see Rosalind Savill, The Wallace Collection Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain (London, 1988), Vol. I, cat. no. C269, pp. 240-243. The garlands of flowers on the reverse of the present lot are similar to those on a pair of Vase à Panneaux or Vase à Perles in the Royal Collection, attributed to Jean-Baptiste Tandart L'aîné, where it is noted that Tandart was paid 300 livres for 100 cartouches painted with wreaths in 1767 on a variety of pieces, see Geoffrey de Bellaigue, French Porcelain in the Collection of Her Majesty The Queen (London, 2009), Vol. I, pp. 256-261.
