The collector J. Annan Bryce (d. 1923) was a Scottish M.P. for Inverness Burghs from 1906-1918. Prior to that, he spent a number of years abroad, first as an East India Merchant and then serving on various councils in Burma, where he cultivated a taste for Eastern bronzes and metalwork. The 1923 sale following his death included treasures from many collecting areas; the catalogue took particular note of his 'valuable and well-known specimens of old English furniture'.
