Lot Essay

Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro (1846-1905) is the best known of the Portuguese Palissy followers. In 1889, the manufactory won a gold and silver medal at the Paris Universal Exposition and Pinheiro was awarded The Legion of Honor from the French President Sadi Carnot.
