PARK AVENUE LIQUOR SHOP

Seen by many as the most respected spirits retailer in the United States, Park Avenue Liquor Shop opened its doors in 1934, soon after the Repeal Act ended Prohibition. In 1955, Herman J. Goldstein took over the reigns, and it has remained with the Goldstein family ever since, across three generations. Michael Goldstein is the current president, and his son Jonathan is a renowned whisky expert and a member of 'The Keepers of the Quaich'. In 1975, the store moved to its current location at 292 Madison Avenue, and continues to provide leading advice and education on the world's spirits - and is particularly well known for its selection of single malt scotches, with around 400 bottlings currently in stock.

Christie's is delighted to be working in partnership with Park Avenue Liquor Shop this November, and the 30-lot selection was sourced directly from the Park Avenue Liquor Shop's cellars - and in many cases, exclusive Park Avenue Liquor Shop bottlings are on offer.

There's Cognac, Armagnac, Rum, Bourbon whiskey, Irish whiskey - and, of course, Scotch whisky. Over the half the selection is devoted to Scotch, and includes some great rarities, including exceptional bottlings from Ardbeg, Bowmore, Macallan and Glenfarclas.

BOWMORE

Bowmore is a perennial collectors favorite, and a trio of Bowmore Black fetched $18,000 in December 2007 at the inaugural Christie's New York spirits auction. The following two lots include a 1957 bottling that was sourced from five remarkable casks that slumbered in the Number 1 vault for 38 years as other spirit that surrounded them matured much quicker. Carefully nurtured and monitored by the Distillery, the result is a real gem in the Bowmore family. The 1964 Fino case was aged for 37 years in casks sourced from the Macharnudo district, one of the finest sherry vineyard areas in Spain.
