Basel: Johann Hervagius, 1541. 2 parts in one, 2° (268 x 178mm). Text in Greek with commentary surround. Separate title, foliation and quiring for each part. Printer's devices, woodcut ornamental and historiated initials. (Small expert repairs to first title and following leaf, light occasional browning and staining.) Contemporary German pigskin over wooden boards, panelled in blind with an outer border of fleur-de-lis, roses and other foliate devices, enclosing a roll-tool border of virtues initialled CG and dated 1539, with a foliate central panel bearing the first owner's initials "I.B.P.", panelled spine with small gilt centrepieces (lacking clasps, expert repairs, more noticeable at headcap, extremities rubbed). Provenance: Johann Bartholomew Plaut (initials I.B.P. on binding, dated 1550, and full name in ink ms., crossed through, on rear pastedown) -- ink ownership inscription dated 1624 on title -- D.
