(Light browning, small marginal light stain affecting a few leaves at beginning, textblock starting at Ee2 and Kk1.) Contemporary mottled calf, covers with narrow gilt border, red morocco lettering-piece, gilt edges (extremities rubbed, spine worn, especially at head cap, covers lightly warped). Provenance: Joseph de Zeuallos (early inscription on title).
FIRST COMPLETE TRANSLATION OF HOMER'S ODYSSEY INTO SPANISH. Perez (d.1566), secretary to Charles V and Philip II, published his translation of the first 13 books in Salamanca in 1550, with a reissue of the same in Venice in 1553. This Antwerp publication contains the missing 11 books for the first time. EXTREMELY RARE; according to ABPC, the last copy to sell at auction was 1983. Adams H-800; Brunet III, 292; Palau 115893.
