A Very Rare Porcelain Covered Carafe
by the Gardner Factory, Moscow, circa 1840
Of baluster form, with a tall cylindrical neck and on a spreading gilt foot, the central body in two parts, smoothly joined in the middle and cut to simulate twelve separate petals, decorated with alternating vertical bands of white and cobalt glazed ground, covered with a gilt, stylized foliate design, the flower-head stopper similarly decorated, the gilt neck decorated with seven multi-coloured ovals and in between with little gilt kernels, marked under base with impressed Cyrillic mark 'GARDNER', 'Georgii Pobedonosets'
