A Rare Porcelain Covered Cup And Saucer
by the Popov Factory, Moscow, circa 1850
Semi-spherical, on a low gilt foot, the cobalt ground body painted with a multi-coloured miniature depicting a view of St Basil's, with a panorama of the Kremlin, Red Square, the Zarechie and the Moscow canal, framed within a gilt band, small gilt bouquets of flowers adorn the area around the cartouche, the handle, in the lower part, in the form of a petal, and in the upper simulating two entwined branches with petals, the cobalt ground cover painted with a multi-coloured bouquet of flowers on white ground framed within a gilt band, with a gilt leaf finial, the circular saucer similarly decorated, in the original fitted case, marked with dark blue underglaze Cyrillic 'AP'
Cup 4¾ in (12.1 cm.) high with cover, 3 7/8 in. (9.8 cm.) diameter, saucer 4 1/8 in. (10.4 cm.) diameter (3)
