A Porcelain Presentation Cup And Saucer
by the Popov Factory, Moscow, circa 1850
Of tapering cylindrical form, the cobalt ground painted body decorated en grisaille with an oval medallion depicting a panorama of the Kremlin, the Moscow canal and the Bolshoi Kamenni Bridge, framed within a gilt band, with a gilt stylized rocaille design on the cobalt ground, the gilt handle simulating entwined branches, the domed cover similarly decorated with a view of the Bolshoi Theatre, with gilt bud finial, the circular saucer with a white ground centre and similar gilt rocaille design on the cobalt ground body, gilt rims, marked under base with blue Cyrillic monogram 'AP'
Cup 5 3/8 in. (13.7 cm.) high with cover, 3¾ in. (9.5 cm.) diameter, saucer 6 5/8 in. (16.7 cm.) diameter (2)
